You will encounter some pretty neat looking monsters on your way up the tower, and an interesting new boss after every 10 floors.

The fun blend of word puzzle and fantasy adventure is enough to flesh out hours of content, and the snappy interface makes it easy to jump in for a few floors of spellbinding action. Once you’ve beat a few levels and increased your attack power the previous levels go by in a flash. Defeating monsters and finishing levels will grant you some gold. Yet again we have something a little new with word game mixed with RPG adventure elements in Spellspire, 10tons’ 5th game on the system in as many weeks. It has been created for the sole purpose of entertainment and knowledge.

That is one of my complaints about the game though. You can only receive the award for getting a star once in each level but its a nice amount of gold and can accumulate pretty quickly. While I wouldn’t recommend Spellspire to the majority of Nintendo Switch owners, if you are a fan of mental puzzle games then you will find something to enjoy here.

Spellspire has already been released on other consoles, but I believe it feels more at home on the Switch, with the nature of the game and the fact that it is best played it short, five-minute bursts at a time. It’s why Picross is always welcome on Nintendo systems. Spellspire is not all about just laying down words and moving on, because your hero wizard has weapons and gear that improve attack, health, and more. I rarely found myself running out of words to use because it is so easy to just abuse all the three lettered words and defeat most enemies on that particular stage with them alone.

Plus the letters change each time you play so there’s not as much repetitiveness as you would think.
